This was our first Schmooze-A-Palooza event. This is designed as a business networking event whith a speaker and then finishes off with a few comedians. The idea is that people can come over after work at 5:30 pm and be done by 8:00 pm and go home. We had around 20 people which was good for a first showing and we are confident it will only improve. Right now these events are scheduled for once a month on the the 4th Monday of every month.

Saturday Night Funnies with Larry “Bubbles” Brown

Well we had a little bit of a dilema. The Willow Tree needed the lounge where we usually do our shows. Instead of cancelling the show we moved it to the back portion of the restaurant. For some unknown reason the wait staff decided to seat a family right near the show. It definitely concerned me and it was a disraction during the first third of the show. However, it seemed like everyone had a good time and maybe we worry about it more as artists? Performing tonight were Carrie Gilbert, Albert Valejo, Pat McCoy and Larry “Bubbles” Brown.

June 5 Open Mic @ Bunjo’s Comedy Club

Our open mic had a small crowd tonight, but the show was great. In all honesty even though it’s an open mic we do not have a lot of clunkers. It’s a great evening with only a $4 cover charge, $4 drinks, and $4 selected appetizers.

Performing tonight were: John DeKoven, Sammy Obeid, Kabeezy, Sean Calahan, Marty Grimes, Dan Wilson. Amir Malekpour, Brendan Lynch, Carrie Gilbert, Drew Pult, Kevin Young, Sam Wilcke.

Tell your friends and family to come out have some laughs and enjoy a great entertainment value on a Friday evening.

A very fun evening with good performances from all. The audience seemed to have a good time and enjoyed this format with $4 drink and food specials.

A hot Saturday night and we’re not only talking about the comics. It must have been in the 90′s at night. Ben Feldman hosted for the evening, we had a nice special guest set from “Chicago” Steve Barkley, Carrie Gilbert and then our headliner Rick Pulido. Good night of comedy. There was one idiot and his wife who we comped for the show at the owners request. So he saves $30 and then he has the nerve to argue with the waiter over $1 !!!

Small crowd last night, but at least a crowd. Most open mics usuall just have comics. Working on their material were Gail Jones, Sean Stryker, Carrie Gilbert, Kabeezy, Sammy Obeid, Susan Maletta, Kevin Young, and Pat McCoy. Highlight of the evening was Susan Maletta telling an anal joke and seeing a middle aged couple laughing their ass off. Who says people are prudish?

Why are people so flippin irritated about getting e-mail, but they don’t care about all the junk mail they get? It’s not like we are sending an e-mail to lengthen their penis. We are talking about comedy here, something that if everyone would enjoy more would probably make the world a better place.

Fun night with a few birthdays in the crowd

Had a good crowd tonight. All the comics brought the funny tonight. John DeKoven hosted and we had Kenny Altman, Carrie Gilbert, a special guest set by Larry “Bubbles” Brown, Doug Coover and our headliner Robin Cee. This was the first time we had Robin headline and she did great. Forty minutes of funny stuff and all clean.

We had a few birthday’s in the audience. Rowena and Sam were celebrating and they are also married. John joked about how young they looked for being married ten years. Here are some pictures they took with Robin Cee and another with Bubbles. We are glad they were able to celebrate at Bunjo’s Comedy Club.

Analogy of a Heckler

Tonight we had our first problem with a heckler. As usual it was a women. It started out innocently enough and she was okay with a few comments here and there. By the time Doug Coover was on stage she was out of control and annoying everyone in the audience. He shut her down hard and embarrased the crap out of her which she deserved.

Hecklers always think that they are helping the show, but they are almost always making it worse and pissing off the rest of the audience. It seems that 9 out of 10 times the problem hecklers are women. This isn’t a sexist statment and even women comics will agree. It just seems that when women get a little alcohol in them they feel they can shout out whatever they want at comics and they crave the attention. Then the problem is that the guy they are with feels that he needs to protect her they want to get argumentative and even fight. Luckily we didn’t have that problem.

The woman heckler, the man she was with and the rest of their party argued that they have been to “many comedy shows” and they have never been treated so rudely by a comic and that he should be able to take it. Well he did take it, they couldn’t handle what he was giving back. Then they had the nerve to ask for their money back. We should have told them that they should have given the rest of the audience their money back for being such a pain in the but. The funniest thing of all was their “comeback” was telling us that our club was a dump and they were never coming back.

I don’t think they realized that they would not be missed at all. Comedy is not a big money making venture. Comedians do not get paid that much and putting shows together is not getting anybody rich. We do this because it is a “labor of love” and people like these are not worth the hassle so we are glad they are never going to come back because we don’t need that type of aggravation.
